Matthew began archery in mid 2006 after taking a lesson at local archery shop.  Eight months laterhe achieved his Indoor Gold Olympian and set two Cub Compound indoor records in California.  Before his second outdoor season Matthew joined the USA Archery Champs program and began learning the B.E.S.T. system.  For the 2007 outdoor competition season thirteen year old Matt competed in the Cadet Compound category (15-16 years) and finished ranked fourth on the Junior USAT list.  Less than 18 months after first picking up a bow and agreeing to switch to Olympic recurve he was named to the USA Archery Junior Dream Team.
